What your child needs for Nursery
Most parents choose school uniform in Nursery, though this is optional. We recommend a school polo shirt (plain yellow or embroidered with our school logo) and school sweatshirt/ hoodie/ cardigan, and comfortable bottoms, such as jogging trousers or leggings. Footwear must be sturdy and practical, and children can wear school shoes if they wish, or alternatively velcro trainers or similar. We encourage children to be as independent as possible with clothing and footwear, so it makes sense to choose items that are more easily manageable! Uniform is available from the school office.
Children will need a PE kit, as we have two PE sessions per week. This may be indoors or outdoors, so the following items are recommended: shorts, t-shirt, joggers, sweatshirt, trainers. Indoor PE shoes are optional, though sometimes we go barefoot indoors, or their PE trainers can be worn if footwear is needed. We ask that children have their PE kit in a drawstring bag. School PE bags are available from the school office.
Children sometimes have toilet accidents, so many parents choose to have spare underwear in school, though we do have spares we can lend if needed. A change of underwear and socks in the PE bag is recommended.
We ask that all children at Whitley Chapel have wellington boots and waterproofs to keep in school. We go out in all weathers, all year round! Waterproofs can be the 'all-in-one' puddlesuit style, or just waterproof trousers. Please ensure that your child is well-equipped with suitable outdoor clothing every day, such as warm, waterproof coats in winter, thin waterproof coats in summer for those inevitable summer showers, suitable shoes all year round, hats and gloves when it is cold, sunhats when it is sunny etc.
Children will need a book bag, preferably a school one that can be bought from the office. Children may have letters or pictures they have made to bring home, and once a week we have a library session, where children can choose a book to bring home to share with you for a week (currently on a Monday). A book bag makes the transportation of these things much easier!
Finally, please do make sure all of your children's belongings are clearly named in a way that the children can identify themselves - again we encourage children to be as independent as possible, and named belongings are an important part of this!
