Our Vision

Whitley Chapel C of E First School
Whole School Vision
for Physical Education, Healthy Active lifestyle and Competitive School Sport

At Whitley Chapel C of E First School we are committed to providing high quality physical education, school sport and physical activity that will help pupils achieve their full potential in life and lead to life-long participation for all.

At the heart of our vision for P.E, our pupils learn that being active is fun. We believe that lessons should provide stimulating, enjoyable and appropriately challenging experiences for all our pupils. As a Christian school, we aim to develop pupils’ respect for their bodies, enabling them to appreciate the importance of developing a healthy and fit body to last them all their lives, and to understand those factors that affect their health and fitness.

Our aim is that from the beginning of their school life, every child develops their physical literacy skills. Pupils develop their fine and gross motor skills. Through learning and exploring fundamental movement skills, they leave Whitley Chapel with a wide range of physical skills and with the confidence to participate in a broad range of activities. Our P.E curriculum ensures that pupils of all abilities access the range of activities we offer and that they are physically active for sustained periods of time.

P.E and Sport is a vital part of learning in the life of our school. Through participation in sport and physical education, pupils develop personal skills such as leadership, responsibility and communication, and social skills such as cooperation, support and how to coach others. Pupils learn how to reflect on their work and that of their peers, analyse performance, set targets and persist to achieve them. They also develop their creative skills by inventing and adapting activities. Whole school links with P.E are developed in other areas of the curriculum such as Science, Literacy and PSHE.

We believe that pupils should have opportunities to participate competitively in physical activities, against themselves and each other as well as against other schools. This helps to develop their resilience as well as helping them to realise their individual potential.
