A time of reflection

9th September 2022

It is with sadness that the children, staff and parents of Whitley Chapel CE First School share in the nation’s mourning of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The children attended an assembly this morning to share our memories of her reign and give thanks to her long service to the nation.

We prayed with Reverend Andrew, and asked that King Charles III and the Royal Family be kept in our hearts at this time.

Some children will also have an opportunity to ring the church bells during lunchtime today, at St Helen’s, as a shared symbol of remembrance across the county.

The children will be writing thoughts and messages this afternoon, and we will collate them into our own book of condolences.

A community book of condolences for the Queen’s passing can be found at:

Hexham Library (within Queens Hall) Queens Hall, Beaumont Street.
